Health Concerns
Over recent years there has been a lot of debate and media coverage regarding transfats or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. Over twenty years ago, long before such public health concerns were voiced Frylite made a conscious choice not to stock or supply these dangerous oils which are known to raise bad cholesterol levels, and clog up arteries, thereby raising the risk of heart attacks. There is already a large body of research which points to a strong link between transfats and coronary heart disease. In 1994 in the United States transfats were said to have caused 30,000 deaths and a NHS study of 120,000 nurses in 2002 found that even a 2% increase in transfat consumption doubled the chances of a nurse getting coronary heart disease. More recently other studies have pointed to a link between transfats increasing the risk of cancer, diabetes and obesity.
How we can help
Since our inception we have pursued a policy of sourcing high quality healthier oil varieties such as rapeseed, soyabean and sunflower oil. Given the negative publicity surrounding the use of transfats, by using our oils we can provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate an interest in the health of your customer and in doing so position your food offering as a healthier option.
